Casablanca – “Amallay”, a documentary series broadcast every Monday on Al Aoula, is back with its fifth season inviting viewers on a journey through Morocco’s rich musical and cultural landscapes.

With Khalid El Barkaoui as the star, the series goes beyond travel to explore sound, memory, and heritage.

A Soussi Amazigh composer, arranger, percussionist, and band leader, El Barkaoui’s concept is driven by a deep passion for travel and musical discovery.

Through “Amallay,” a word that means “wanderer” or “traveler,” in Tamazight, the artist sets out across different Moroccan regions to document traditions, rituals, music and cultural expressions that define each place.

From Tinghir to Kalaat M’Gouna, passing through desert areas and remote territories, each episode follows an artistic and human caravan that pauses to highlight the cultural resonance of the region it visits. Along the way, the series brings together voices from the past and the present, uncovering rare instruments, little-known musical forms, and authentic sounds that remain largely unseen by the wider public.

The project stems from El Bakraoui’s seasoned artistic career. Originally from Agadir, he is also the founder and conductor of the Amazigh Philharmonic Orchestra.

Active in the Moroccan cultural scene since 1996, his name became closely related to “Amallay,” a program that reflects his commitment to preservation, transmission and exploration.

After the strong public reception of its last four seasons, “Amallay” continues this Ramadan with a fifth season, reaffirming its place as more than just a documentary series. It stands as an immersive experience, one that celebrates the diversity, depth and living heritage of Morocco’s artistic and cultural identity.
