Fez — Guy Ritchie’s “The Gentlemen” is bringing its sharply dressed criminal underworld to Morocco, with filming for the Netflix series’ third season reportedly underway in the Kingdom.

Production began in Rabat on Sunday, September 13, according to local reports, while Erfoud has also been selected for scenes during the Morocco shoot.

The move gives Morocco a role in the next chapter of one of Netflix’s most recognizable British crime series, just days after the second season premiered globally on September 3.

Netflix officially confirmed a third season in August, with Ritchie returning as director. The upcoming installment will consist of eight episodes, although the streaming platform has not yet revealed a release date or full casting details.

From British estates to Morocco

“The Gentlemen” follows Eddie Horniman, played by Theo James, an aristocrat who inherits his family estate and discovers that part of it sits above a large cannabis operation.

What begins as an attempt to escape the criminal enterprise gradually pulls Eddie deeper into it, particularly through his relationship with Susie Glass, played by Kaya Scodelario.

The second season expanded the scale of that world considerably, pushing Eddie’s ambitions beyond the estate and into international crime, politics, and dealings with Italian figures.

Ritchie has already suggested that expansion will continue.

“The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” he said when Netflix announced the renewal. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”

The decision to film in both Rabat and Erfoud gives the production access to two dramatically different Moroccan settings. Rabat offers the architecture and urban atmosphere of the capital, while Erfoud sits close to the desert landscapes of southeastern Morocco.

It is not yet clear how either location will appear within the story or whether Morocco itself will be identified on screen.

Season three moves quickly into production

The Morocco shoot follows a rapid turnaround for the series.

When season three was officially announced in late August, industry reporting said the new episodes were still in pre-production and that scripts had not yet been finalized. Production was nevertheless expected to begin imminently.

Actor Vinnie Jones, who plays Geoff Seacombe, also said earlier this month that production work on the third season was expected to begin within days.

Theo James is expected to continue at the center of the series as Eddie, while Netflix’s current cast materials also prominently feature Scodelario, Daniel Ings, Vinnie Jones, Ray Winstone, and Joely Richardson.

No premiere date has been announced for season three.
