Fez – Kim Kardashian has been awarded €1 (MAD 10.88/$1.15) in damages over the 2016 Paris robbery in which she was tied up and stripped of millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery. The Paris court’s decision yesterday granted the symbolic amount she had requested, bringing another stage of the proceedings to a close nearly ten years after the attack.
“Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” Kardashian and stylist Simone Harouche said in a joint statement shared with the Associated Press. Harouche, who was also present during the incident, requested and received the same €1 award.
The tiny sum contrasts sharply with the value of the stolen possessions. Initial reporting in 2016 estimated the haul at around $10 million (MAD 94 million). The Associated Press’s latest account puts the stolen jewellery at more than $6 million (MAD 57 million). Those are different reported valuations, rather than a single settled figure for her personal financial loss.
Among the most valuable pieces was a diamond ring worth approximately $4 million (MAD 37 million), given to Kardashian by her then-husband Kanye West, now known as Ye. Most of the jewellery, including the ring, has never been recovered, Reuters reported.
The €1 award also comes after a substantial insurance payout. Court reporting from 2018 documented that AIG had paid Kardashian more than $6.1 million following the robbery. The insurer subsequently sought to recover that money through a negligence lawsuit against her former bodyguard and his company.
The stolen jewellery’s estimated value, the insurance payment, and this week’s symbolic damages therefore represent separate amounts. The latest ruling does not mean Kardashian received only €1 in total after losing her possessions.
The robbery took place during Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, while she was staying at the Hôtel de Pourtalès. Men disguised as police officers entered her suite, restrained her with tape and zip ties, and took her jewellery.
Eight people were convicted in connection with the heist in May 2025. During the trial, Kardashian told the robbery’s organiser, Aomar Ait Khedache, that she forgave him, while explaining that forgiveness did not remove the trauma she continued to experience.
Other claimants received larger sums in this week’s civil ruling. The court awarded the hotel’s former receptionist €109,516 (MAD 2.2 million) and the hotel itself €50,000 (MAD 544,002), according to the Associated Press.
For Kardashian and Harouche, the nominal award reflected the purpose they had set for this stage of the case. Their joint statement thanked the court and those who supported them, expressing the hope that they could move forward and continue to heal.
