Rabat — The Moroccan Fondation Travaux Généraux de Construction de Casablanca (TGCC) invites art enthusiasts to discover the finalists of the sixth edition of the Mustaqbal Prize at the opening of the “Momentum” exhibition on September 17.

The Mustaqbal Prize is an annual competition dedicated to Moroccan artists and foreign artists residing in Morocco, whether formally trained or self-taught.

Since its launch in 2021, the prize has supported Morocco’s emerging contemporary art scene by giving its finalists the opportunity to exhibit their work at Artorium, the TGCC Foundation’s art space.

This year’s edition comes with a special challenge: turning creative momentum into a real springboard for young artists.

Founder Meryem Bouzoubaa explained in the official communication that the edition’s name, “Momentum,” is “a word imbued with rare density.” The term refers both to “the impulse that sets a body in motion” and to “the subtle moment when something shifts, reveals itself, or awakens.”

“With Momentum, we aim to provide a space where this moment of impulse becomes an opportunity, a springboard, a chance for visibility and sharing. A space where every young artist can transform this pivotal moment into a direction, an affirmation, a voice that unfolds,” she added.

Among the announced jury members are Mahi Binebine, Bouchra Khalili, Khadija El Abyad, and Victoria Jaunasse, director of Ellipse Art Projects. Their participation is part of a collaboration between the Mustaqbal Prize and the Ellipse Prize, designed to build a bridge between art scenes and international mobility.

The Ellipse Prize is a travelling competition that takes place in different regions each year, promoting the work of emerging artists and highlighting their artistic practices.

The Mustaqbal Prize will select three winners, with each receiving a cash prize. The first-prize winner will also benefit from an artist residency at Jardin Rouge, supported by the Montresso Art Foundation. They will also participate in two duo exhibitions with the winner of the Prix Ellipse, presented in Paris in spring 2027 and at Artorium in November of the same year.

“Momentum” brings together several forms of artistic expression, including drawing, painting, installation, photography, and sound art, celebrating the diversity of Morocco’s contemporary artistic scene.
