Yves Saint Laurent Museum Launches ‘FILMINDIA’ Cinema Series Celebrating Indian Film Heritage
Rabat – Yves Saint Laurent museum has announced the launch of FILMINDIA, an exclusive Indian film cycle set to run from June 1 to August 31. Screenings will take place every Monday at 7 p.m. at the museum’s Pierre Bergé Auditorium, offering audiences in Marrakech a cinematic journey through the richness and diversity of Indian cinema. Moving beyond the traditional image of Bollywood, FILMINDIA explores the many layers of India’s film landscape through a carefully curated selection of classic and contemporary works. The program highlights a wide range of genres and movements, including auteur cinema, parallel cinema, social satire, political drama, psychological thrillers, and experimental filmmaking. Audiences will have the opportunity to discover iconic films such as Jalsaghar (1958) by Satyajit Ray, Pyaasa (1957) by Guru Dutt, and Manthan (1976) by Shyam Benegal, alongside modern acclaimed titles including Ugly (2013) by Anurag Kashyap and Masaan (2015) by Neeraj Ghaywan. The program has been curated by acclaimed Indian filmmaker and producer Nikkhil Advani, who assembled a personal selection of films that have shaped the history of Indian cinema. A key highlight of the series will be Advani’s attendance at the screening of his celebrated film Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003) on July 6, 2026, at the Pierre Bergé Auditorium. Through FILMINDIA, the museum continues to position itself as an international cultural crossroads, fostering artistic dialogue between Morocco and India. In line with this mission, all screenings will be free to attend with prior reservation, allowing wider audiences to experience these landmark films on the big screen. The 14-film program will also travel to the Cinémathèque de Tanger, where screenings will run from June 5 to September 4. Designed for devoted cinephiles and curious newcomers alike, FILMINDIA promises to turn summer Monday evenings in Marrakech into an immersive cultural experience celebrating the depth, creativity, and emotional power of Indian cinema.
