Rabat – Argentinian channel Unife broadcasted the soap opera Jezebel on January 24. The series was shot both in Israel and Morocco, on the same sites as Games of Thrones.
The series, broadcasted for the first time in Argentina, tells the story of Jezebel, a woman who ruled Israel 900 years before Christ.
Directed by Alexandre Avancini, the blockbuster was shot in different locations in Brazil, Israel, and in Morocco by Atlas Studios, the same studios where scenes from the award-winning series Game of Thrones were filmed.
With 80 episodes to be aired, the story revolves around a stubborn and beautiful Phoenician princess who uses her charm and power of seduction to become the wife of King Ahab, the seventh king of Israel.
Marrying King Ahab was one of Jezebel’s first great steps to achieve what she was looking for: becoming the queen and gaining unlimited power.
In history, Jezebel has been saddled with a reputation as the bad girl of the Bible and the wickedest of women.
The show’s cast includes internationally renowned actors such as Lidi Lisboa in the lead role of Jezebel, Andre Bankoff as King Ahab, and Iano Salomão as Elias, the prophet who seeks to defend the people of Israel against the overwhelmingly wicked queen.
Director Avancini is known for his feature film “Nada que perder” and the series “José de Egipto.”
This isn’t the first time producers of critically acclaimed foreign films choose Morocco to shoot their cinematic masterpieces. The city of Ouarzazate, also known as “Moroccan Hollywood,” is considered to be among the best destinations for international filmmakers; its studios are also among the biggest worldwide.
Ouarzazate, alongside the city of Essaouira, served as a background for Essos, a continent in the world of Game of Thrones known for its deserts and dry climate.
Ouarzazate studios have also hosted several other film projects such as Vikings, Sherlock, and Prison Break.
