The city of Rabat will host over the weekend BritFest, a cultural event seeking to strengthen bilateral ties between the UK and Morocco.
The London Academy in Rabat is organizing the event under the patronage of the British Embassy.
The event will include a music concert, a DJ performance, a dance show, and a boxing demonstration, among other activities.
BritFest will be open to everyone between June 18 and 19 from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Access fees range between MAD 20 ($2) for children and MAD 40 ($4) for adults.
In a statement highlighting the significance of the event, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, commended the London Academy Rabat for its efforts in deepening bilateral relations between the UK and Morocco, especially for bringing the two countries closer on the cultural front.
“It’s fantastic to see the school hosting its first BritFest event. Our differences are a strength and I’m proud to see our diversity being celebrated,” the mayor added.
Hamza Taouzzale, Lord Mayor of Westminster, also emphasized the importance of the event, sending his wholehearted support to “all the children and the whole team there at London Academy Rabat for everything you do to build a bridge between Morocco and the UK.”
Toaouzzale, who recently made headlines in Morocco following his appointment as Lord Mayor of Westminster, added that BritFest “sounds fantastic and I urge anyone who can make it to be there.”
The 22-year-old Touzzale is also the youngest and first Muslim to serve his current position on the Westminster City Council board.
In addition to celebrating UK-Morocco ties, the event will also mark Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.
Morocco and the UK share good diplomatic relations, as evidenced by the strongly growing trade volume between the two countries. This year marks the 300th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries, and the UK and Moroccan governments have both pledged to further deepen their cooperation in a broad range of sectors post-Brexit.
