Twenty years after its original release, Nabil Ayouch's Ali Zaoua returns to cinemas in a remastered version. The Moroccan film will be presented to hundreds of children and youth at the Cultural Centers Les Etoiles du Maroc in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangiers, Agadir, and Fez from November 12 to 27, 2022.

Ali Zaoua Screened to Raise Awareness for Moroccan Street Children

Rabat- Twenty years after its original release, Nabil Ayouch’s Ali Zaoua returns to cinemas in a remastered version. The Moroccan film will be presented to hundreds of children and youth at the Cultural Centers Les Etoiles du Maroc in Casablanca, Marrakech, Tangiers, Agadir, and Fez from November 12 to 27, 2022.

Each city will host a special showing for children that come from protection centers, orphanages, or other specialized institutions.

According to a press release from the Ali Zaoua foundation, the screenings “will give youth a chance to re-discover the classic film while also taking advantage of a cultural program including artistic workshops, round tables and debates, and music performances.”

The event will also feature renowned artists, including actress Amal Ayouch, as well as high-level speakers, with the goal of “not only raising awareness among the new generation about the problems of delinquency, abuse, and harassment they may face, but also encouraging them to reveal their talents and potential through arts and culture.”

The Ali Zaoua Foundation , Ali n’ Production, and the French Institute have joined forces to put the initiative together, aiming to support children and young people in difficult situations through collaboration with several organizations including SOS Children’s Village, Darna Association, and Chifae Association among others.

Director Nabil Ayouch and painter Mahi Binebine created Ali Zaoua Foundation in February 2009 with the goal of promoting the social development and psycho-social rehabilitation of young Moroccans from underprivileged backgrounds by facilitating their access to all forms of artistic expression.

On its official website, the organization stresses that its mission is to encourage young Moroccan talent, particularly those coming from disadvantaged environments or in difficult circumstances in building their projects through educational, artistic, and administrative support .

Ali Zaoua: Prince of the Streets is a Moroccan film directed by Nabil Ayouch.

The film, released in 2000, follows a group of street kids in Casablanca and their involvement with a gang led by Dib (Said Taghmaoui). The film depicts the struggles of young Moroccan street children who live in a painful, poor, and abusive environment.
