Rabat – French-Moroccan comedian Jamel Debbouze is torn between supporting either Morocco or France if they were to compete in the semi-finals. Unable to choose a side, the comedian joked, “it would be like if my father played against my mother.”

In an interview with beIN sports, the comedian said, “I want to see this game, but I’m nervous because I don’t know how to live this moment between Morocco and France.”

He added, “It would be like my father playing against my mother. It’s impossible, it’s a very complicated dilemma.”

Discussing Morocco and France’s upcoming matches in the World Cup on Saturday, the comedian described the occasion as “an exceptional and unique moment for a French-Moroccan like me.”

On December 5, Jamel Debbouze and Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe visited Morocco’s national football team in Doha to encourage them ahead of their round of 16 match against Spain.

A well-known comedian in France, Morocco, and beyond, Debbouze ranked 36th among France’s top 50 favorite personalities in 2017.

The comedian has starred in many movies, including The New Toy (2022), Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra (2002), Amelie (2001), among others.

Debbouze opened his comedy club in 2008, providing opportunities for aspiring stand-up comedians. Every year, Debbouze organizes the “Marrakech du Rire” comedy festival, which attracts hundreds of stand-up fans.

Morocco on Saturday will face Portugal in the  World Cup’s quarter-finals at 16:00 Moroccan time.

Meanwhile, France is set to face England on the same day at 20:00 Moroccan time.
