Rabat – Morocco’s Marrakech has topped the list of the most popular destinations for French tourists for the second year in a row.
Air Transport news outlet Air Journal used data compiled by search engine trips Liligo, indicating that a return ticket flight from Marrakech stands at €207 (MAD 2,284).
The data indicates that the flight ticket price connecting France to Marrakech dropped by 35% in 2022 compared to 2019 with an increase of 9% compared to last year.
Portuguese cities Lisbon and Porto come second and third in the ranking, while Istanbul came third followed by Barcelona.
Several lists featured Morocco in their ranking, particularly Marrakech on lists of best destinations for tourists.
Last year, French news outlet Le Parisien also listed Marrakech as the most popular holiday destination among French tourists.
“While many French travelers have opted this season for nearby cities, often European, thanks to attractive prices,” Marrakech, Morocco’s prominent tourist hub and frequented destination for French tourists, remained among the favorites, the French newspaper said.
Morocco welcomes tourists from all regions across the world annually. This is reflected in Morocco’s tourism revenues which hit $6.77 billion by the end of October 2022. The number indicates a significant improvement of 148.9% compared to -0.6% a year earlier.
During the nine first months of 2022, Morocco registered 7.7 million tourist arrivals as well as 13.3 million overnight stays in classified accommodation facilities.
The number represents a 76 and 69% increase, respectively compared to the country’s pre-COVID levels.
As a blooming destination, Morocco featured in several international magazines and news outlets that introduce the country’s tourism assets.
In January, The Washington Post featured Morocco as one of the world’s top travel destinations for the year 2023.
Citing tourist experts, the newspaper emphasized that the country has been emerging as a “major travel hotspot.”
