Rabat – Every year, tourists flock to Morocco to experience its unique culture and explore its many attractions. Therefore, it comes as no surprise that several Moroccan cities are featured in Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Best of the Best Destination Awards 2023.

From the bustling city of Marrakech to the ancient city of Fez, Moroccan cities are named travelers’ favorites.

Morocco’s historic city of Fez ranked first place on TripAdvisor’s list of the world’s best places for culture, ahead of Jerusalem, Athens, and Dublin respectively.

Highlighting Fez’s ancient history the travel website said, “The oldest university in the world isn’t Oxford or the Sorbonne—it’s the University of Al-Karaouine, and you’ll find it in Fes el Bali.”

The travel guidance platform recommends its readers visit the old medina, Fez el Bali, which is also a UNESCO world heritage site.

The awarded cities were selected for their history, art, music, cuisine, iconic sights, and unique experiences.

Not only did Fez top the list in the culture category, but it was also listed as TripAdvisor’s Trending Destination for 2023.

As a trending destination Fez ranked seventh, while Agadir–southern Morocco’s most-visited city– ranked 21st out of the top 25 cities.

Agadir

The travel reviewing site suggests that its readers take a camel ride, rent a beach buggy, explore the Suq al-Had market, or hike for 20 minutes to the Agadir Kasbah ruins for panoramic city views.

Morocco continued to establish itself in the list of the World’s Best Nature Destinations, Merzouga–a small village in southeast Morocco– ranked 21st out of 25 countries.

Merzouga’s desert

The countries which have been crowned award-winning destinations are all popular for outdoor activities such as hiking through national parks, swimming in cenotes, and, in Merzouga’s case, giving visitors a taste of desert life.

Another Moroccan city featured in the ranking was Marrakech which was placed eighth in TripAdvisor’s Most Popular Tourist Destinations for 2023.

Marrakech

Describing Marrakech as a “magical place brimming with markets, gardens, palaces, and mosques,” the travel company recommends exploring the historic medina, visiting the serene Jardin Majorelle, or taking in the beauty of the city’s historic mosques.
