Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2023 is expected to fall on Friday, April 21, according to CNN Indonesia.

“Eid 2023 will be celebrated on April 21, 2023 or Friday for Muhammadiyah members,” the news outlet said.

The Muhammadiyah Society is a major Islamic non-governmental organization in Indonesia, which is devoted to promoting Islam in the country and to social and educational activities.

The country’s Ministry of Religion will hold an “isbat,” a moon sighting meeting on April 20 to determine the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic calendar.

Most countries are expected to celebrate on Friday this year, while others like Morocco will celebrate on Saturday instead.

As the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, most Muslim-majority countries attempt to observe the crescent moon to determine the first day of the new month.

Eid Al Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, and is one of the Islamic calendar’s major holidays.

Muslims around the globe begin the day by attending special Eid prayers usually held in open air temporary mosques or courtyards. The prayer is followed by a special religious sermon called a “khutba.”

They also exchange visits and food with family and friends. Another hallmark of Eid celebrations is the breakfast, which usually contains many culture-specific and traditional foods.
