Rabat – Moroccan rapper El Grande Toto, also known as Taha Fahssi, has filed a defamation complaint after finding himself at the center of controversy when two twitter accounts accused him on Wednesday of sexual assault.

This move means ElGrandeToto has opted to address the situation through legal channels, his lawyer, Abdelfattah Zahrach announced in a statement on Thursday. Zahrach went on to describe his client’s “defamation, dissemination of false information, and infringement of privacy” lawsuit as the most fitting response to the unjustified accusations he has been subjected to.

“As a Moroccan citizen and in accordance with the rights conferred on him by law, he took legal action through the Casablanca Prosecutor’s Office by filing a complaint for defamation, dissemination of false information, and infringement of private life,” ElGrand Toto’s lawyer explained in the statement.

“In order to obtain reparation and pursue those who have defamed and harmed him, reserving the right to present his defenses and his requests before the competent court, affirming his confidence in justice and the forces of law,” he added.

The matter has garnered attention on social media, where a person on X (formerly Twitter), identifying as a journalism student, accused an unnamed Moroccan rapper of sexually assaulting minors.

After the initial accusation surfaced, the Twitter account in question proceeded to identify ElGrandeToto as the previously unnamed sexual offender. This subsequent action exacerbated the public discourse surrounding the allegations, adding more complexity and drama to the developing situation.

Although the accusations have not been confirmed or investigated, various social media pages have over the past few days actively promoted news stories that appeared to be aimed at tarnishing Toto’s reputation.

The rapper’s decision to address the matter head-on may be motivated by a desire to stop the social media character assassination he has faced since Wednesday. But it remains to be seen how netizens will react to his presumption of innocence before the allegations are thoroughly investigated.
