Marrakech – The 14th annual Malmö Arab Film Festival illuminated screens and hearts from April 22 to 28, 2024, showcasing the vibrant tapestry of Arab cinema to audiences in Sweden and beyond.

Morocco made a notable mark on this year’s festival with the screening of “The Mother of All Lies,” a compelling documentary by Asmae El Moudir.

The film, which delves into poignant narratives, captivated audiences during its showcase.

A subsequent screening on April 26th in Stockholm witnessed a packed cinema, signaling a resounding success for Moroccan cinema on the international stage.

The festival’s opening evening was a star-studded affair, welcoming luminaries from across the Arab film industry.

Asmae El Moudir, the creative force behind “The Mother of All Lies,” graced the event, alongside Fatema Nouali Azar, a distinguished member of the festival’s jury, and acclaimed actress Nisrine Erradi.

In a moment of tribute to excellence in Arab cinema, the festival bestowed honors upon esteemed Egyptian director Khairy Beshara.

Recognizing his profound contributions to the cinematic landscape, Beshara was appointed as the chair of the jury for feature films, a role befitting his illustrious career.

Established as a beacon for Arab cinema outside its traditional borders, the Malmö Arab Film Festival continues to elevate cultural exchange and artistic dialogue.

Founded by the festival’s visionary general manager and creative director, Mouhamad Keblawi, the event has evolved from humble beginnings into the largest celebration of its kind in southern Sweden.

With a rich tapestry of over 33 films hailing from 22 Arab countries, the festival serves as a platform for diverse voices and narratives, fostering understanding and appreciation of Arab culture through the lens of cinema.
