Rabat – Spanish air carrier Binter Canarias, in collaboration with the Moroccan National Tourism Office (ONMT), is set to launch a new route connecting Gran Canaria to Ouarzazate starting this July.

The partnership aims to boost tourism between the Canary Islands and Morocco by offering travelers the opportunity to explore the cultural and natural wonders of Ouarzazate, said ONMT in a press release.

Following the successful establishment of routes to Essaouira and Tangier, Ouarzazate now joins the list of Moroccan destinations accessible from the Canary Islands.

With its rich history, stunning architecture, and breathtaking landscapes, Ouarzazate promises an unforgettable experience for tourists, added the statement.

The new route will operate with a weekly frequency, with flights departing from Ouarzazate Airport to Las Palmas every Saturday.

A collaborative communication campaign will be rolled out alongside the launch of the new route to encourage residents of the Canary Islands to explore the diverse attractions of Ouarzazate. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the destination’s offerings and encourage travel between the two regions.

In addition to the introduction of the Ouarzazate route, Binter Canarias also announced plans to expand its schedule to Tangier, with an additional flight frequency totaling two flights per week on Wednesdays and Saturdays.

This expansion reflects the growing demand for travel between the Canary Islands and Morocco, noted the statement.

Often dubbed the “Gateway to the Sahara,” Ouarzazate is located in southeast Morocco. It is known for its stunning desert landscapes, ancient kasbahs, and historical significance as a filming location for many Hollywood movies.

Tourists from around the world are drawn to Ouarzazate for its unique blend of culture, history, and natural beauty.

Some key attractions include the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou, the Atlas Film Studios, and the landscapes of the nearby Sahara Desert.
