Rabat – Morocco clinched the title of the Best African Golf Tourism Destination of the Year for 2024 at the European Convention of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO) in Malaga on Tuesday.

The accolade is the result of collaborative efforts of the Royal Moroccan Golf Federation (FRMG) and the Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) in promoting the country as a world-class golfing destination.

The IAGTO convention drew over 750 delegates from Europe and beyond. Industry leaders, golf course operators, resort owners, and travel agencies convened over two days to forge partnerships and explore new avenues in the golf tourism sector.

Private Moroccan operators, specializing in golf, resorts, and hospitality, were also present at the event to promote Morocco’s golf offerings.

Morocco’s designation as the Best African Golf Tourism Destination for 2024 was the result of votes from 660 golf tour operators. Their decision was based on an evaluation of the country’s performance in the first quarter of 2024 and the satisfaction levels of their customers.

For ONMT, golf serves as a catalyst for tourism development and cements Morocco’s profile as a prestigious golf destination.

The partnership between ONMT and Netflix, aimed at promoting golf in Morocco under the brand Morocco, Land of Light, exemplifies innovative strategies to elevate the country’s profile on the global stage.

The Netflix-ONMT partnership covers several actions, including an initial collaboration to integrate the Morocco brand into the Netflix Cup held on November 14-15, 2023.

The event marks Netflix’s first live sporting event which is set to feature Formula 1 drivers playing with PGA tour golfers.

Held at “The Wynn Golf Club, Las Vegas,” the competition saw sports icons forming six duos compete during the kick-off of the most anticipated event of the season, “The F1 Las Vegas Grand Prix.”
