Marrakesh – The Australian Embassy is organizing in Casablanca this evening a special “Meet the Artist” event, promising a cultural exchange experience that transcends borders.

The Myriem Himmich Gallery will set the stage for the event, which will welcome photographer Naomi Hobson to engage with both the Moroccan public and artistic community.

According to a press release shared with Morocco World News (MWN), this gathering offers a rare chance for Morocco’s artistic community to engage with Hobson, whose thought-provoking exhibition “Adolescent Wonderland” is currently captivating audiences at Rabat’s National Photography Museum.

In the realm of art, Hobson expressed the purpose of her exhibit in the release.  “Today, photography must push boundaries… I utilize this medium to narrate real stories that, in my opinion, are either untold or have never been told.”

She underscored her aspiration to reveal the essence of youth: spirited, adventurous, intelligent, resourceful, proud, mischievous, and fun-loving.

The press release adds that the title “Adolescent Wonderland” takes inspiration from the classic children’s novel “Alice in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.

Themes of youthfulness, mischief, and childhood memories resonate throughout Hobson’s photographs, where vibrant figures and their accessories beckon the viewer into a dreamlike reality.

The Australian Ambassador to Morocco, Michael Cutts, commented on Hobson’s work in the statement. “Naomi Hobson’s exhibition provides a glimpse into the foreign policy of the Australian government, aiming to showcase a modern Australia.,” he said.  “I am delighted that the Moroccan public can explore these magnificent photographs.”

Hobson hails from the Southern Kaantju/Umpila community and calls Coen – a small town of 360 residents in the heart of the Cape York Peninsula in northern Queensland – her home.

Drawing inspiration from her immediate surroundings, Hobson’s works eloquently convey her enduring connection to the land and the ancestral ties binding her people to their traditional territories.
