Essaouira – This week, Morocco’s vibrant seaside city of Essaouira is setting the stage for an experience like no other.
The 25th Anniversary edition of the Gnaoua World Music Festival, is kicking off tonight, running from June 27-29. Renowned for its energetic performances and cultural fusion, the festival attracts artists and music enthusiasts from around the globe.
How to get there
If you need last-minute transportation to the festival, don’t worry. While direct buses through Supratours and CTM may be sold out, local bus companies like Alsa likely will still have available seats. You can also consider hitching a ride with a friend or fellow festival-goer as well as opting for a grande taxi.
No tickets? No problem!
Online tickets on the Gnaoua Festival’s official website may be sold out, but don’t worry! General entry is completely free and provides full access to most of the main stages, including Moulay Hassan. Additionally, special access tickets for the later days of the festival may still be available for purchase at the festival store in Essaouira.
Where to stay
Although most of the hotels will be booked if trying last for last minute, not to fear. Many hostels still have beds and are often open for last minute booking, although you may have to hostel hop from night to night! Try online websites such as Booking.com or call ahead to ensure you will not be showing up disappointed.
Dress in layers
As for the weather, expect a range of temperatures in Essaouira. During the day, enjoy sunny and mild conditions with temperatures around 20°C (68°F). However, be prepared for cooler nights, with temperatures dropping to 15°C (59°F). The evenings will be very windy by the seaside and partly cloudy.
