Marrakesh – Netflix is shaking things up across Canada and the UK, nudging some users with messages to upgrade their subscriptions.
If you’re still on the Basic plan within these countries, it’s time to consider a switch to Premium, Standard, or even Standard With Ads, according to The Independent.
Netflix is causing a stir with a new message to Basic plan users, stating, “Choose a new plan to keep watching.”
And it’s not just in Canada and the UK – expect similar changes to roll out to Basic plan users worldwide soon.
According to The Independent, Netflix revealed in an earnings call earlier this year their plan to phase out the Basic tier, starting with Canada and the UK in Q2 and expanding from there.
A lot of users talked about this online, voicing their opinions and concerns.
One user exclaimed, “The Netflix subscriptions are getting ridiculous,” highlighting the growing frustration among subscribers.
Another change surrounding Netflix that happened earlier this year was the addition of nearly 30 million subscribers in 2023. This came about after a crackdown on password sharing in May.
Despite concerns, Netflix continues to reign supreme in the subscription-streaming world, boasting 260 million paying customers globally, outpacing its closest rivals.
Based in Los Gatos, California, Netflix has seen its stock skyrocket by approximately 90% over the past year.
