Marrakesh – ByteDance’s video editing app, CapCut, is shaking things up, starting August 5.
According to TechCrunch, the beloved platform will bid farewell to its free cloud storage option for hosting creative assets, prompting users to rethink their digital storage strategies.
In the past few days, CapCut users have received notifications about upcoming changes to the app’s free tier.
Previously, the company offered a generous 1 GB of free cloud storage, but that’s about to change.
Starting August 5, free cloud storage will be a thing of the past, and users will need to pay to store their creative assets on CapCut.
CapCut is introducing new pricing plans for its cloud storage; $2.49 per month for 100GB and $7.49 per month for 1000GB.
This means creators must purchase additional space or share their files through another cloud service provider.
Additionally, the app is reducing the number of collaborators on one account from five to two for users on the free tier.
“From August 5th, users will be able to add one collaborator to their CapCut account for free,” a company spokesperson told TechCrunch in a statement.
The spokesperson added, “If users want to collaborate with more people, CapCut offers the Team Tier package, which allows CapCut users to collaborate with more user accounts to use the same cloud space.”
Earlier this year, YouTube made its CapCut rival Create app available in 13 more markets including Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong.
