Marrakesh – La Liste ranking website has unveiled its highly anticipated lineup of the world’s best restaurants, ranking the following as the top five establishments in the global gourmet landscape.

Although their top five have French cuisine at the forefront, their list of 1000 restaurants for 2024 includes cuisine from all over the world, including but not limited to Japan, Mexico, Slovenia, Spain, and Morocco.

La Liste’s Top 5

  1. Le Bernardin, United States

After securing a remarkable 99.50 rating on La Liste’s prestigious rankings, this restaurant in New York comes first.

In 1972, siblings Maguy and Gilbert Le Coze founded Le Bernardin in Paris, focusing exclusively on fresh, respectfully prepared seafood.

Following its New York debut in 1986, Chef Eric Ripert upheld its legacy after Gilbert’s passing, maintaining the restaurant’s unparalleled four-star status from The New York Times.

Known for its elegant redesign in 2011 and numerous James Beard Awards, including “Outstanding Restaurant Design” and “Outstanding Restaurateur” for Maguy Le Coze, Le Bernardin continues to set records with its consistent excellence and global acclaim.

  1. L’Enclume, United Kingdom

Ranked second with a stellar 99.50 score, L’Enclume in the town of Grange-over-Sands, Cumbria, England is synonymous with Simon Rogan’s culinary brilliance.

In 2022, the celebrated Lake District restaurant announced a significant increase in its tasting menu price to £250 per person, citing the cost of living crisis as the reason for this adjustment.

Despite achieving the prestigious three Michelin stars in the same year, L’Enclume emphasizes that economic pressures, not accolades, are driving this change.

They serve exquisite dishes such as Boltardy beetroot with horseradish vinegar and Mylor prawn tart, alongside juices infused with perilla.

Other highlights include a fritter of Duroc pig and smoked eel, complemented by lovage and fermented sweetcorn. For dessert, indulge in their Corra Linn pudding caramelized in birch sap, enhanced with stout vinegar and aged Corra Linn.

  1.  Guy Savoy, France

Named the best restaurant in the world by La Liste for the sixth consecutive year in 2023, this Parisian culinary gem received three Michelin stars in 2002 and has maintained this prestigious status for two decades.

Designed by architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte, the restaurant boasts six dining rooms, large windows, hand-painted smiling face plates, colorful glass water droplet ornaments, and a Seine backdrop.

Their menu is available in English, Korean, Japanese, Chinese, and Russian.

During the Olympic Games, the restaurant will be closed from July 14 to 26 due to stringent measures, as stated on their website.

  1. La Vague d’Or, France

Ranking fourth with a 99.50 score on La Liste, La Vague d’Or boasts three Michelin stars, five toques, and a 19/20 rating from Gault & Millau.

As night falls, this culinary haven in Saint Tropez offers a symphony of provencal flavors.

Renowned chef Arnaud Donckele draws inspiration from the heart of Provence, celebrating its rich terroir and traditions.

From the “Fuguons Ensemble” menu highlighting timeless classics to the “Balade Epicurienne” for the most discerning palates, each dish he crafts is a symphony of emotions inspired by lush hillsides, the sea’s briny essence, and the region’s storied history.

During the summer season, La Vague d’Or is open every evening except Wednesday.

  1. Schwarzwaldstube, Germany

For four decades, Schwarzwaldstube in the Traube Tonbach hotel in Baiersbronn has been synonymous with exquisite French-haute cuisine.

Since 2017, Chef Torsten Michel has brought a contemporary twist to French culinary classics. Sommelier Stéphane Gass’s wine pairings perfectly complement his menus, while Maître Nina Mihilli and her passionate service team ensure an unforgettable evening.

Moroccan cuisine showcased

La Liste also made a point to showcase Moroccan restaurants within their prestigious rankings. La Grande Table Marocaine, nestled within the Royal Mansour Marrakech Hotel, boasts a remarkable 97.50% ranking for La Liste and is within the top 100.

Representing Marrakech’s hospitality and rich traditions, it is celebrated on La Liste as Africa’s finest Moroccan restaurant.

The restaurant’s pavilion, adorned with its famous blue patio, beckons guests into an extraordinary dining experience.

Behind its brass doors lies Marrakesh’s haute cuisine gem; La Grande Table Marocaine, a distinguished member of the chain Les Grandes Tables du Monde. It promises unforgettable dining for any special occasion.

Embodying the essence of Marrakech, this fine-dining establishment offers a voyage of taste and sensory delight.

From Sh’hiwates to pastilla and couscous, each dish unveils a Royal Mansour-style, modern interpretation of Moroccan cuisine rooted in age-old traditions.

On Fridays, guests can savor the most iconic flavors of local cuisine, starting with an array of Moroccan salads followed by the famed couscous Royal Mansour, available in vegetarian, chicken, or lamb variations.

Concluding the meal are delights like the orange blossom-infused milk pastilla and the traditional cinnamon orange salad, ensuring every dining experience ends on a high note.

In addition to highlighting Moroccan restaurants, La Liste also has a section for culinary awards, and an entire group is dedicated to Moroccan chefs and gourmet institutions.

For the 2024 edition, Rabat native Khadija Bensidira won the Mentor Award, Casablanca’s Lahlah & Co. pastry shop won the Innovation Award, and Tangier’s L’Olivier restaurant won the Community Spirit Award,  among other notable mentions.
