Marrakech – Marrakech, Morocco’s vibrant jewel and a melting pot of African and international influences, is once again set to make history by hosting the prestigious Africa’s Top Chefs Tournament (TOC Afrique).
This remarkable event will take place on September 12 and 13 at the luxurious Palmeraie Rotana Resort.
“TOC Afrique” cements Marrakech’s status as the African capital of gastronomy, attracting the continent’s top culinary talent for an extraordinary showdown.
The event, organized by Rahal Event, the creators of the renowned CREMAI fair, is not just a culinary competition but a celebration of Africa’s rich gastronomic heritage.
This platform honors the continent’s diverse flavors while fostering innovation, creativity, and cross-cultural exchanges.
It’s a testament to the vision of King Mohammed VI in promoting Morocco’s intangible cultural heritage and reinforcing South-South cooperation.
A continental culinary showdown
The TOC Afrique 2024 will feature two prestigious competitions: the Bocuse d’Or Afrique and the Coupe d’Afrique de la Patisserie.
These events are not only a showcase of talent but a reflection of Africa’s growing influence on the global culinary stage. The “Bocuse d’Or,” often dubbed the “World Cup of Gastronomy,” brings together top chefs from Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, and Senegal for a high-stakes competition on September 12.
Within 5 hours and 35 minutes, these chefs will demonstrate their culinary mastery through two key challenges: a platter presentation featuring roasted beef and veal sweetbreads with three vegetable garnishes, and a plated menu centered around the humble carrot, including an appetizer, a main dish with scallops, and a dessert.
On September 13, the spotlight turns to Africa’s finest pastry chefs in the Africa’s Top Chefs Tournament.
Competing pastry chefs from countries such as Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Ghana, Mauritius, Morocco, Senegal, and Tunisia will push the boundaries of creativity over 10 intense hours of competition.
Their talents will be tested in both tasting and artistic categories, from crafting frozen fruit entremets to reimagining the classic Paris-Brest dessert. The event culminates in spectacular sugar and chocolate showpieces, a true feast for both the eyes and the taste buds.
A celebration of African gastronomy and beyond
By hosting TOC Afrique 2024, Morocco not only reaffirms its leadership in hospitality and gastronomy but also highlights its commitment to African unity through cultural and culinary collaboration.
The chefs competing in these prestigious events have been rigorously selected through national competitions, with Morocco’s own representatives emerging victorious at the TOC Maroc in May 2023.
The legacy of TOC Afrique extends far beyond Marrakech, as the winners will go on to compete in the global finals at the SIRHA Lyon in 2025, continuing the journey that began in Africa’s gastronomic capital.
