Marrakech – Day 2 of the Africa Top Chefs Tournament in Marrakech was marked by Morocco’s victory, with the North African bagging the coveted “Africa Pastry Cup.”

This triumph not only brought pride to the Moroccan team but also highlighted the profound and continued appeal of Morocco’s rich culinary heritage.

By presenting flavors that captivated the judges and dishes that told the story of Moroccan tradition, the win reinforced Morocco’s status as a prominent leader in African cuisine.

Chef Mona Mosly, the renowned Saudi pastry artist who was one of the contest’s judges, said as much in her comments after the jury declared Morocco’s victory.

This win is a vibrant testimony to Moroccan hospitality, the exceptional skills of Moroccan chefs, and their professionalism played a crucial role in this achievement, she argued.

The celebrated chef noted that Moroccan hospitality is renowned for its warmth and generosity, which extends into the culinary world, creating an inviting atmosphere that enhances the dining experience.

The dedication and expertise of Moroccan chefs were evident in their meticulous craftsmanship and innovative approaches throughout the contest.

And, as many audience members and judges said afterwards, it is these qualities that have elevated Moroccan cuisine on the world stage.

Taken together, the chef suggested,  these elements underscore Morocco’s prominent position in the world of gastronomy.

Chef Mosly tellingly revealed that because her best friend is half Moroccan, she grew up hearing stories about couscous and pastilla.

Inspired by this deep connection to Moroccan cuisine, she is considering starting a business focused on Moroccan culinary traditions.

The winners of the Africa Pastry Cup and the Bocuse d’Or Africa will represent their country — Morocco — and Africa in the grand worldwide finale, which will take place at the prestigious SIRHA Salon in Lyon in 2025.
