Rabat – Travelling is a fantastic way to create memories providing us with tales to share, be it through unique experiences, exotic travels, or any combination of these activities. It can also help maintain excellent physical and mental health, and even delay the ageing process, according to a new study.

The recent study from Edith Cowan University (ECU) was based on the “theory of entropy.” In the study, entropy was defined as the degradation of matter and energy in the universe. It found that tourism can trigger entropy changes — both positive and negative and can reduce both physical and cognitive decline of those travelling and exploring new places.

“Tourism isn’t just about leisure and recreation. It could also contribute to people’s physical and mental health,” a press statement quoted Fangli Hu, who contributed to this research, as explaining.

“Such experiences can stimulate stress responses, elevate metabolic rates and boost the immune system. Put simply the self-defence system becomes more resilient,” she added.

Getting lost in new environments lowers stress and boosts metabolism while stimulating the immune system making it more resilient and effective.

“Put simply, the self-defence system becomes more resilient. Hormones conducive to tissue repair and regeneration may be released and promote the self-healing system’s functioning,” Fangli Hu explained. “This relief helps maintain the body’s metabolic balance and increases the anti-wear-and-tear system’s effectiveness.”

Data from the International Air Transport Association shows that the number of people travelling was only increasing, with airlines carrying eight per cent more passengers in July compared to a year ago.
