In case you haven’t heard, Morocco is the place to be right now. Let’s discover why!
Marrakech – Freelancer Reggie Lamptey had his sights set on making his girlfriend’s 40th birthday one for the books.
“My girlfriend always dreamed of going to Morocco,” he wrote on Business Insider.
But the pandemic hit, slowing their plans. That’s when Reggie dove headfirst into the world of credit-card points and reward miles, turning a challenging year into an opportunity to learn.
“It was a game,” he said, spending two years strategically earning points to turn her dream trip into a luxurious reality.
When it came to flights, Reggie wanted nothing less than business class. After asking his points group for advice, he found the perfect option on Royal Air Maroc – fully reclining seats for just 115,000 miles and $93 in taxes.
“My girlfriend had never flown business class before, so I was especially excited to surprise her,” he said.
Next came the accommodations – her only request was to stay in a riad in Marrakech, which posed a challenge since many riads don’t have points systems.
But the travel gods smiled on Reggie when Marriott of Marrakech added a riad to its portfolio. And with a little savvy, he was able to score a six-night stay for 120,000 points and about $27 in taxes.
Their stay in Tangier was just as seamless. With his Hilton Honors diamond status, he secured a five-night stay at the Hilton Tangier Al Houara Resort and Spa, using points to score the fifth night free, a suite upgrade, and complimentary breakfast.
By the time their trip was over, Reggie had spent just $250 out of pocket for 12 days of luxury.
“Points and miles have completely changed how I travel,” Reggie says.
And as for the future? He’s already planning his next adventure.
So, when are you booking your luxury getaway?
