The festival kicked off on November 29, transforming the city into a cinematic haven until December 7.

Marrakech – On Saturday, the Marrakech International Film Festival shone in royal splendor as Prince Moulay Rachid, president of the festival’s foundation, presided over an elegant dinner hosted by King Mohammed VI at the iconic El Badi Palace.

Accompanied by Princess Lalla Oum Keltoum, the prince was warmly welcomed with a ceremonial performance by the Auxiliary Forces, before meeting a delegation of Moroccan officials.

The atmosphere was electric with anticipation as the royals were greeted by an impressive lineup of dignitaries.

Prince Moulay Rachid and Princess Lalla Oum Keltoum later made their way to the VIP lounge, where they engaged with this year’s festival jury, mingled with international film stars, and connected with key national and international partners.

The evening was marked by the presence of several prominent Moroccan figures, reflecting the festival’s importance on both a cultural and governmental level. 

Among those in attendance were Nadia Fettah; Minister of Economy and Finance, Fatima-Ezzahra El Mansouri; Minister of National Territory Planning who is also President of the Marrakech Commune, Fatim-Zahra Ammor; Minister of Tourismand Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, Minister of Youth, Culture, and Communication.

Senior members of the festival’s organizing team were also present, adding to the sense of prestige surrounding the evening.

Faïçal Laraïchi; Vice President of the Film Foundation, Mélita Toscan Du Plantier; Advisor to the President, and artistic director Rémi Bonhomme all played key roles in ensuring the smooth operation of the festival. 

Their presence alongside the royals exemplified the collaboration between Morocco’s government, film industry, and cultural institutions in making the event a truly remarkable occasion.

Celebrating its role as a bridge between global cinema and Moroccan culture, this year’s Marrakech International Film Festival (MIFF) promises an exciting mix of glamour, nostalgia, and star power.

The 21st edition offers a dynamic program, including exclusive screenings, thought-provoking panel discussions, and masterclasses that bring together filmmakers and enthusiasts.

A selection of international films will also take center stage, fostering meaningful cultural exchange and dialogue.

Festivalgoers can look forward to engaging Q&A sessions with renowned directors, interactive workshops on film production, and insightful explorations of the art of filmmaking with some of the most influential names in the industry.
