Marrakech – Hakim Benchekroun, a renowned Moroccan photographer and visual artist, will represent Abla Ababou gallery at the 6th edition of the 1-54 Contemporary African Art Fair, taking place from January 30 to February 2 at La Mamounia in Marrakech.
His captivating photography, which explores the intricate relationship between culture, memory, and Morocco’s landscapes, offers a fresh perspective on Moroccan heritage within the broader African artistic context.
Born in 1989 in Rabat, where he still resides, Benchekroun brings a multidisciplinary approach to his work, informed by his background in architecture.
This foundation enriches his photographic practice, allowing him to offer nuanced narratives of Morocco’s architectural and cultural landscapes. He also established the creative agency Studiolo in 2017, aiming to craft innovative cultural experiences.
Benchekroun’s work has been displayed in significant exhibitions such as UNESCO’s World Heritage inscription of Rabat and the “Le Maroc Contemporain” exhibition at the Arab World Institute in Paris.
Recent exhibitions with Abla Ababou gallery include “Generation Objectif” in Casablanca (2024), “Terre des Hommes” in Marrakech (2024), and “BIENALSUR” at the Musée National de la Photographie in Rabat (2023).
