The animated series aims to contribute to spreading Moroccan heritage beyond borders, serving as a true cultural influence.
Marrakech – Historian Nabil Mouline, in collaboration with digital educator Mustapha El Fekkak, known as “Swinga,” has recently launched Basmat al-Tourath (The Imprint of Heritage), the first-ever animated series dedicated to Morocco’s tangible and intangible heritage.
The concept behind Basmat al-Tourath stems from the vision of Nabil Mouline, a researcher at the French National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS).
His goal is to transform history into a dynamic and accessible narrative, breaking away from exclusive academic circles and rigid school textbooks, according to the series’ official presentation.
To bring this vision to life, Professor Mouline partnered with Swinga one of the most influential digital educators in Morocco.
Together, they aimed to create a format that blends scientific rigor with compelling storytelling, ensuring each episode provides a truly immersive experience.
The episodes of Basmat al-Tourath, which are broadcast every Friday evening during Ramadan on YouTube, delve into various key aspects of Morocco’s rich heritage.
The debut episode of the series focused on Tinmel, a village in the High Atlas mountains, known as a religious, intellectual, and military hub that significantly impacted regional history and played a crucial role in the formation of the Almohad dynasty.
