Marrakech – Werenoi – one of the most striking success stories in French rap and the Montreuil-born rapper who took the industry by storm, has died at the age of 31.

The news was confirmed by his manager on X in the early hours of Saturday, sending shockwaves across the music world.

Werenoi first broke through in 2021 and quickly became one of the genre’s most influential voices.

According to early reports, the artist had been struggling with cardiovascular issues, which may have contributed to his sudden death.

Known for his raw style, haunting lyrics, and melodic hooks, he dominated streaming platforms and became a leading figure in the French rap scene. His rise was meteoric — and undeniable.

Despite the short span of his career, Werenoi achieved what many spend decades chasing. His 2023 album Carré sold over 342,000 copies, making it the best-selling album in France that year.

He repeated the feat in 2024 with Pyramide, which racked up an astonishing 345,000 sales.

Just days before his passing, Werenoi had dropped a new collaboration with Gims titled Piano — a track already poised to be one of the defining hits of the summer.

From the streets of Montreuil to playlists across the Francophone world, Werenoi’s voice became a symbol of ambition, struggle, and artistry.

In only three years, he built a universe, a loyal fanbase, and a musical legacy that won’t be forgotten anytime soon.

Today, the French rap community mourns more than just a musician. It mourns a storyteller, a voice of his generation, and a relentless creative force.

His passing leaves a void — and a powerful reminder of how fragile brilliance can be.
