Marrakech – You get “From Morocco with Love”, an exhibition that feels less like a museum visit and more like flipping through someone’s memory book, scented with jasmine, spice, and history.
Opened officially on May 18, at the iconic Es Saadi Palace in Marrakech, this is not just an art show.
It’s an intimate moment of sharing, curated by Elisabeth Bauchet-Bouhlal — hotel heiress, art collector, and self-declared lover of all things Moroccan.
She was just 23 when her father handed her the reins of a luxury hotel. Instead of treating Morocco as a business venture, she embraced it like home. And like any good love story, she let it change her.
Her collection, co-built with her late husband Jamil Bouhlal (one of Morocco’s first engineers and a close friend of legendary artists like Ahmed Cherkaoui), spans over six decades of Moroccan creativity — from post-independence modernism to Gen-Z art rebels shaking up the scene today.
A total of 65 artists, 130 works, and not a single dull moment.
As I read through the story behind the show, I couldn’t help but feel like I was being let in on a glamorous secret.
This isn’t just about aesthetics. It’s about friendship, memory, and the thrill of discovering someone else’s way of seeing the world. For Elisabeth, art is about connection — and that’s exactly what this exhibition delivers.
So whether you’re Moroccan or just a romantic passerby like me, From Morocco with Love is your invitation to step inside a heart-shaped time capsule. Spoiler alert: you might not want to leave.
