Rabat- At the age of 15, Owen Cooper broke the record yesterday afternoon for youngest-ever Emmy Award nominee in the best supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or TV movie category.
If Cooper wins, then he will make history once again by becoming the youngest male ever to receive an acting Emmy.
The British actor played Jamie Miller, a teen murder suspect, in Netflix’s “Adolescence.” The Netflix series is about a 13-year-old boy who is accused of murdering a girl from his class.
The dramatic show explores the eternal impacts that the internet and bullying have on young adults and children. With great running engagement, the show has been formally nominated for outstanding limited series.
Since Netflix released the series in March of this year, “Adolesense” reached second place for most-watched English show around the globe. With viewing time surpassing 540 million hours, it became the platform’s most-watched UK show ever.
When its streams skyrocketed, Cooper was busy shooting Emerald Fennell‘s “Wuthering Heights” with co-star Jacob Elordi. The young actor plays the young version of Elordi’s character, Heathcliff.
In an interview with Deadline, he revealed that Elordi would charismatically poke fun at his quick rise to fame.
“They were all saying how big the show’s gone, and they were sick of seeing me on TV and stuff. That’s what Jacob said” Cooper shared.
Although Cooper has acknowledged that he may have already lived through the peak of his career, the young teen continues to shine and will now be working on the upcoming BBC series “Film Club,” co-starring Aimee Lou Wood, Ralph Davis, Suranne Jones and Nabhaan Rizwan.
