Rabat- Imane Anys, most commonly known to her fans as “Pokimane,” is a 29-year-old Moroccan content creator holding the title of most-followed female streamer on Twitch and one of the top 20 most-followed creators on the platform overall.
On July 9, Time Magazine released the TIME100 Creators list in which Pokimane sat alongside the best in the growing field.
The magazine selects the top 100 Creators by assessing the most influential digital voices.
“We release the inaugural TIME100 Creators list in recognition of how significantly these individuals are changing the way people inform themselves,” Time Magazine said in a statement.
Their reach, engagement, and businesses built were also heavily taken into consideration.
Time Magazine recognized that content creators and influencers nowadays are asked to speak out on topics beyond their niche and area of expertise.
Among these conversations is politics, including Anys’ Kamala Harris public endorsement during the 2024 US Presidential election.
Anys is most popular for streaming well known digital games on Twitch such as Fortnite and League of Legends. She was formerly a cofounder of OfflineTV, an online content creators entertainment group.
Anys was born on May 14, 1996, in Rabat, Morocco but grew up in Canada. In 2015 she began her studies in chemical engineering at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, but stopped out to pursue her streaming career fulltime.
Her following grew exponentially through consistent content and streaming. In 2017 the gamer received a “Short Award” in 2017 for “Best Twitch Streamer of the Year.”
The following year Pokimane was selected as a Twitch Ambassador for the esteemed annual “TwitchCon” event and was made a Twitch Creator Camp partner.
By 2020, the internet sensation signed a multi-year exclusive deal with Twitch, leading her to make the “Games” category Forbes 30 Under 30 list in 2021.
Her recognition of her supportive community led her to establish a scholarship for students in UC Irvine’s esports program.
As of today, the streamer has 9.4 million followers on Twitch and 6.64 million subscribers on YouTube, and continues to stream consistently.
Beyond trying on digital Fortnite skins, Anys films travel vlogs and daily routines on multiple platforms such as TikTok and Instagram to keep her audience engaged beyond the fictional online games.
