Morocco’s first-ever free entertainment space for rural families is launching this August.
Fez – In a quiet village outside Marrakech, something unprecedented is about to happen. On August 1st, the rural commune of Agafay will inaugurate “Parc Moulay Tayeb El Khayri”: the first public park in Morocco designed entirely for rural communities and offered completely free of charge.
Located in the village of Aït Aïssa, this isn’t just another green space. It’s a bold and human-centered project that challenges the idea that modern infrastructure and public services should only exist in cities.
For once, rural families aren’t being asked to adapt to an urban model, they’re being given one of their own.
The park is the result of a partnership between “Yamoura Association for Development and Solidarity,” “Bloom Charity,” and “Agafay Hope and Development.”
It was built to offer local families a safe, open, and inclusive space where children can play, people can gather, and daily life can pause for moments of joy. And most importantly, to do it without charging a single dirham.
Over 15,000 families from Agafay and nearby villages are expected to benefit. For them, this park is more than a place to relax. It’s access. It’s dignity.
Beyond leisure
It’s the kind of everyday pleasure that rural Morocco has often been excluded from.
But the impact goes beyond leisure. Parc Moulay Tayeb El Khayri is also a social and educational space, designed to nurture human connection, childhood development, and mental well-being.
It reflects a much-needed shift: that rural development doesn’t have to mean building malls or highways, it can start with something as simple, and as meaningful, as giving people space to breathe.
The park also supports a broader vision for sustainable rural tourism, rooted in local participation rather than outside exploitation.
Instead of imposing flashy projects that serve outsiders, this one serves the community first. It adds value without erasing identity.
What makes this initiative so powerful is its simplicity. It wasn’t driven by government mandates or top-down policies.
It was built by people who understood the local context, respected its rhythms, and worked together to deliver something concrete.
In a time where rural areas often get only the bare minimum, this project sets a new precedent.
It proves that with the right partnerships and a clear purpose, development can be both meaningful and fair.
Parc Moulay Tayeb El Khayri may be the first free rural park of its kind in Morocco, but it shouldn’t be the last.
It’s a model that deserves to travel, grow, and inspire other regions to think beyond survival and toward collective well-being.
