Marrakech – La Mamounia, the fabled five-star hotel nestled opposite the Koutoubia Mosque, has been honored with the fourth-position ranking in Robb Report’s 2025 list of the world’s top luxury hotels.

This latest international recognition highlights the hotel’s long-standing prestige and its unique ability to blend contemporary luxury with authentic Moroccan spirit.

According to the magazine, the ranking was awarded in acknowledgment of La Mamounia’s all-around excellence, from its personalized guest services and refined hospitality to its diverse offerings and lavish accommodations.

Visitors are said to experience an exceptional journey from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave.

The legacy began in the 18th century, when Sultan Mohammed ben Abdallah gifted a majestic 13-hectare orchard to his son, Moulay Mamoun.

Known as “Arset Al Mamoun,” the lush gardens later became the site for La Mamounia in 1923, designed by French architects Henri Prost and Antoine Marchisio, merging traditional Moroccan architecture with Art Deco elegance. The hotel officially opened its doors in 1929.

La Mamounia’s guestbook reads like a who’s who of the 20th century. Winston Churchill famously called it “the most lovely spot in the whole world,” and a bar at the hotel now bears his name.

Dignitaries such as Charles de Gaulle, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Nelson Mandela, and cultural icons including Charlie Chaplin, Yves Saint Laurent, and Paul McCartney, who penned “Mamunia” song during his stay, all found themselves drawn to the legendary hotel’s charm.

Recent years have seen thoughtful renovations that respect its storied past. In 2009, renowned designer Jacques Garcia led a lavish restoration, working closely with Moroccan artisans to reestablish the hotel’s Arabo-Andalusian essence.

Another refresh in 2020 enhanced its interiors, restaurants, and spa under the supervision of Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku.

The centenary in 2023 was marked with elegant additions such as a breathtaking chandelier inspired by Berber jewelry.

La Mamounia boasts 209 keys, comprising 135 rooms, 71 suites, and three riads; each lavishly appointed and reflecting the finest Moroccan craftsmanship. The riads are expansive, private retreats featuring multiple bedrooms, terraces, and private pools.

Guests wander through over 17 hectares of fragrant gardens filled with olive, orange, and rose trees, offering a peaceful contrast to the vibrant energy of nearby Jemaa el-Fnaa.

La Mamounia delivers a rich culinary legacy, with multiple signature restaurants, including Le Marocain, L’Italien, L’Asiatique, and exquisite tea salons by Pierre Hermé.

Each venue brings its own flair, whether modern Moroccan, Italian, or Asian fusion.

Its spa is a sanctuary of serenity, offering traditional hammams, indoor and outdoor pools, treatment cabins, and even a cinema-themed lounge.

Earning fourth place in Robb Report’s 2025 ranking underscores La Mamounia’s timeless ability to offer a transcendent experience.

The accolade recognizes the hotel’s blend of attentive service, architectural beauty, lush gardens, authentic culture, and refined amenities.
