Marrakech — For years, women have been taught that “that time of the month” is a red card from exercise, as if a period meant staying home, curled up with chocolate, Netflix, and a hot water bottle.

But lately, science (and a whole lot of women lifting barbells) is telling us something different: your period might actually be your secret workout weapon.

Here’s the plot twist. During the follicular phase, right after your period starts, estrogen levels rise, energy peaks, and your body is primed for strength training.

Translation? Squats might feel a little less like punishment and more like power.

But during the luteal phase, when progesterone plays boss, fatigue kicks in, cravings take over, and even walking into the gym can feel like an Olympic event.

So maybe it’s not about fighting your cycle, but working with it. Heavy lifts when hormones are on your side, gentle yoga or Pilates when they’re not.

After all, why treat your body like a machine when it’s actually a symphony?

The bigger question is: are we ready to see the gym not as a battlefield against our bodies, but as a place where we move with them?

Maybe true strength isn’t just about how much weight we can lift, but how well we can listen to ourselves , cramps and all.
