Fez — Morocco has been named one of the five best destinations to “keep summer going” this September, with “Le Figaro” singling out Essaouira as “softer than ever this season” and urging travelers to pair medina wanders with Atlantic sunsets and day trips along the coast.
The French Daily’s shortlist—ranking destinations for long weekends or extended stays—features Puglia and Sicily with the Aeolian Islands, Oman, the Balearics, and Morocco, highlighting the season’s calmer crowds, warm seas around 25°C, and better-value prices.
For Morocco specifically, the paper recommends classic September circuits: Marrakech when dusk rises across the medina, a breath of fresh air in the Atlas foothills toward Berber villages and the Ourika Valley, Fes for Bab Boujloud, the tanneries and maze-like souks, and Chefchaouen’s indigo lanes crowned by its 15th-century fortress.
On the coast, “Le Figaro” nudges visitors to sit at Essaouira’s port and watch fishermen prepare their nets before drifting into the medina, then chase wind and waves at Sidi Kaouki roughly half an hour down the road. Further south, Agadir’s sweeping bay offers long promenades and easy beach days.
These calls echo Morocco’s broader late-summer appeal, where trade winds keep temperatures comfortable and the sea stays swimmable into autumn.
The recognition comes amid a strong tourism year: Morocco welcomed about 13.5 million visitors by the end of August, up 15% year-on-year, as the sector’s post-pandemic momentum continues. Separate rankings this season have also placed the Kingdom among the world’s top destinations to visit in 2025, with Forbes France (in partnership with Kayak) listing Morocco sixth globally.
For travelers weighing a last-minute escape, the shoulder months offer what many come for: warm water, clearer lanes in the medinas, and golden-hour terraces without the peak-season crush—exactly the Morocco “Le Figaro” describes for an unhurried end to summer.
