Rabat- On October 11 the rock singer Ian Watkins was stabbed to death by two inmates at HMP Wakefield prison. 25-year-old Rashid Gedel and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth are accused of the murder.

Ian Watkins was lead vocalist in the rock band “Lostprophets.” The group used to sell millions of albums worldwide. They won many musical awards and held numerous musical performances. The band’s final performance was a month before Watkins was charged with sexual misconduct.

Watkins was first apprehended for drug use charges, followed by accusations of sexual abuse of children and rape attempts. Among the charges, Watkins admitted his attempt to rape an 11-year-old child and several other sexual insults.

Watkins was found guilty of underage sexual abuse and was sentenced of a total of 29 years in prison and 6 years on licence. He is often described as a pedophile who used his fame and status to exploit fans.

During his time in prison, Watkins claimed that he was threatened and he said that his inmates were “murderers, mass murderers, rapists, paedophiles, serial killers – the worst of the worst.” In August 2023, Watkins was attacked by his inmates, though prison officials did not fear for his life. The attack on Saturday, however, resulted in Watkins’ death.
