Khol
“Khol” is a black powder used as eyeliner. It originates back to Mesopotamia, then spread through the Middle East and North Africa. It is made from natural minerals into a powder and applied gently around the eye with a wooden applicator called “Merwed.” It was mostly used by the Amazigh tribes for both males and females, but today it is mainly a woman’s beauty product and a symbol of femininity.
Khol also has spiritual undertones. It presents a defined eye with a sharp gaze; a coveted beauty feature. It symbolizes wisdom, power, and maturity, and is often worn on special occasions such as weddings. Spiritually, it is believed that Khol protects people from the evil eye and any negative energy, signified by the black color. Khol also has medical benefits: it is assumed that it shields the eye from glare, dust, and protects the vision.
Aker fassi
Aker fassi is a natural cosmetic beauty product. It is made from dried poppy petals and pomegranate peel into a tinted red powder. It is often mixed with clay, natural oils, or rosewater. Aker Fassi is commonly used as a lip tint and a blush for a natural glow. Originally used by the Amazigh women, aker fassi is utilized as makeup and as a body mask, or “ghasoul” in hammam rituals for a long-lasting charm and soft skin.

Argan oil, Morocco’s gold treasure, is a precious natural oil. It is extracted from the argan tree, which grows in a specific region of Souss. Beside the culinary use, argan oil is also used as a cosmetic product for the whole body. It is rich with vitamin E, antioxidants and fatty acids, moisturizing the skin, reducing wrinkles or any aging marks, and repairing hair and nails.
