Fez – A vibrant artistic celebration themed “Sawt Ar-Raml” (Voice of the Sand) took over the stage at the Mohammed V Theater in Rabat on Friday night, as Morocco marked the 50th anniversary of the historic Green March. Organized by the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication, the event brought together political, cultural, and artistic figures to honor one of the kingdom’s most defining national milestones.
The night began with a rendition of the national anthem, followed by choreographed performances and poetic recitations inspired by the Green March. Moroccan musicians and dancers showcased their talents with a blend of traditional and contemporary styles, highlighting the enduring emotional power of the 1975 march that reclaimed Morocco’s southern provinces.
The evening also included screenings of award-winning short films from the fifth edition of the Green March Youth Film Contest. Mohamed Nadir received the Best Talent Award for his film “Hikaya Maghribiya” (Moroccan Tale), while Yassine Iguenfer won the Jury Prize for “Sin Igharassen.” The Grand Prize went to Ibrahim Khalil Ben Jaber for his film “Rihlat Al Ajdad” (Journey of the Ancestors), a cinematic reflection on national heritage.
Among the attendees were Youth and Culture Minister Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, HACA president Latifa Akharbach, Rabat city council president Fatiha El Moudni, and Digital Transition Minister Amel Falah Sgrouchnni, alongside ambassadors and dignitaries from Bahrain, Iraq, Oman, Saudi Arabia, and beyond.
Mohammed Benhassain, director of the Mohammed V Theater, emphasized the unique significance of this year’s celebrations. “This fiftieth anniversary comes at a moment when Morocco’s position on the Sahara is more firmly recognized internationally than ever before,” he said.
Playwright and scenographer Tarek Rebbah, who oversaw the stage design, described the event as “a fusion of music, theater, cinema, and dance celebrating a historic victory and national unity.”
“Sawt Ar-Raml” was more than an artistic spectacle; it was a patriotic statement affirming Morocco’s sovereignty and the cultural memory of a generation. As celebrations unfolded across the country, the Rabat performance stood out as a heartfelt tribute to the Green March and its lasting legacy.
