Airports of Morocco (ONDA), the establishment that oversees administration and operations for all the airports in Morocco, has recently revealed that it will invest more than $1 billion to open a new terminal at Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.

The project – under the plan name “Airports 2030” – has caught the attention of various media outlets like Airjournal, Express.co.uk, Lebrief, and many others.

Additionally, the terminal will have a direct link to the high-speed rail train (TGV), which will allow travellers to reach Marrakech in 50 minutes and Tangier in 90 minutes.

The new terminal is initially expected to handle more than 20 million travellers, with later plans for expansion to accommodate up to 30 million travellers. It is also part of a broader  MAD 38 billion ($3.8 billion) agreement, signed back in July to boost the aviation sector in Morocco.

This project is one of the many that Morocco has taken on in preparation for its hosting of the 2030 World Cup in collaboration with Spain and Portugal.

The project not only serves to benefit upcoming sports events,  but it also catalyzes economic, tourism, and commercial sectors. With this ambitious move, Morocco is hoping to create a hub for international travelers, while also respecting the international standards for checking, safety, and environmental guidelines.
