Marrakech – The United Nations Development System in Morocco has launched a rap and slam competition for young people titled “Paroles d’égalité: Rap et Slam for Safe Digital Spaces.”
Organized in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, the Institut Français of Rabat, and the association Hip Hop Family, the initiative seeks to raise awareness among younger generations and engage the wider public on gender equality and the fight against violence against women and girls, particularly online violence, according to a statement from the organizers.
Young enthusiasts of rap or slam are invited to submit a video performance addressing themes related to preventing and combating all forms of online abuse, including cyberbullying, non-consensual image sharing, blackmail, threats, as well as testimonies and experiences of survivors, and the role of men and boys in promoting safe and inclusive digital spaces.
Performances may be submitted in Arabic, Amazigh, French, or English, and will be evaluated by a jury representing the partner institutions.
The top three entries will be honored at an awards ceremony in Rabat, offering winners visibility and further support.
The contest is part of the global “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence” campaign, held annually from November 25, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, to December 10, Human Rights Day.
