Marrakech – The Embassy of India has announced the launch of Shakti, a special Indian Film Festival dedicated to celebrating women’s empowerment, in partnership with Cinema Eden Club in Casablanca.
The three-day event will open on December 12, offering Moroccan audiences free access to award-winning cinema that reflects the strength, resilience, and creativity of women.
Running from December 12-14, with daily screenings at 7:00 p.m., the festival will be held at Cinema Eden Club, located at 217 Rue Mostafa El Maani in Casablanca.
Admission is free, underscoring the Embassy’s ambition to make high-quality Indian cinema accessible to all.
Curated around narratives of courage and transformation, the program brings together critically acclaimed films from three distinct regions of India, each offering a fresh perspective on women’s journeys.
Godday Godday Chaa – December 12
Opening the festival is the Punjabi family comedy Godday Godday Chaa, a lively feature that follows one woman’s determined effort to break long-standing traditions and ensure women in her village are included in a wedding procession.
The film, filled with energetic wedding songs and bhangra dance sequences, won Best Punjabi Feature Film at the 71st National Film Awards in 2025.
Hellaro – December 13
The second screening, Hellaro, is a Gujarati period drama set in the 1970s Rann of Kutch. This National Award-winning film tells the gripping story of a group of women who challenge an age-old ban on dancing — a collective act that reshapes their destiny.
Goodbye – December 14
Closing the festival is Goodbye, a heartwarming Hindi film starring the legendary Amitabh Bachchan.
The story reflects the realities of the modern woman as she navigates demanding professional responsibilities, family expectations, and the search for balance.
Morocco’s longstanding affection for Indian cinema remains one of the most vibrant cultural bridges between the two nations.
By presenting stories built around universal themes of family, resilience, love, and destiny, the Shakti festival deepens this connection while offering fresh narratives that resonate across cultures.
The initiative is supported by India’s Ministry of Information & Broadcasting under the DCDFC scheme. After Casablanca, the festival will travel to other major Moroccan cities, including Marrakech, Rabat, and Tangier, broadening access to these cinematic stories.
