Marrakech – Moroccan movie theaters are preparing to welcome the new Egyptian film “Wedding or a Funeral” by director Amira Diab, with screenings set to begin across the kingdom from January 15.

This launch reflects local exhibitors’ growing commitment to showcasing contemporary Arab cinema and offering Moroccan audiences the chance to experience the latest regional productions beyond digital platforms.

The film debuted in Egyptian cinemas on January 7, and entered Arab markets on January 8 earlier this month, following a high-profile world premiere at the Red Sea International Film Festival in December 2025.

“Wedding or a Funeral” is a social comedy with sharp, character-driven humor, exploring class divides and family tensions through the story of two very different families bound by kinship.

The plot unfolds as they are compelled to spend a full week together at a luxurious resort ahead of their children’s wedding, triggering a cascade of comedic and revealing situations that highlight psychological and social differences.

The film is the feature directorial debut of Amira Diab, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Dina Maher. It aims to balance satire and social critique without descending into caricature, maintaining a lively pace that supports the narrative’s evolving conflicts.

Programmers in Morocco have increasingly prioritized Egyptian films due to their strong regional appeal and box-office performance.

Screening “Wedding or a Funeral” in Moroccan theaters supports this trend, offering local audiences a chance to enjoy Arab cinema in communal settings and reinforcing the cultural importance of theatrical exhibition.
