Casablanca – Fez, long regarded as Morocco’s spiritual and artisanal heart, will host Synergy Day on January 7.

The one-day cultural event brings together artists and artisans to explore how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary art can meet and inspire new creative forms.

Aiming to merge traditional craftsmanship and contemporary forms of expression, Synergy Day seeks to address a gap within Fez’s cultural landscape. The initiative looks to transform existing challenges into opportunities for creative growth, innovation, and the continuation of cultural traditions, creating a platform where traditional craftsmanship and modern approaches can come together.

The program includes workshops, open dialogue sessions, exhibitions, and collaborative art-making. Through these activities, participants will explore how traditional techniques and contemporary artistic approaches can intersect, allowing new forms of expression to emerge through experimentation and shared practice.

Workshops include a Recycling and Design workshop, Calligraphy, Painting, a Henna design workshop, and a Blues concert, giving participants multiple ways to engage directly with both craft and contemporary creativity.

The event also places emphasis on intergenerational exchange and the promotion of emerging Moroccan artists and artisans. By working within a collective framework, participants are invited to reconsider the boundaries between craftsmanship and contemporary art, and to reflect on how both practices can inform one another.

Synergy Day is led by Omar Chennafi, an art curator, photographer, and Moroccan artist from Fez. The initiative brings together a diverse group of participants, including Adil Mokhlis, Rime Sbaie, Ewa Potocka, Ahmed Bennani, along with other invited artists and artisans.

Synergy Day is free and open to the public, reflecting its commitment to accessibility and community engagement. Visitors are invited to actively participate and share feedback, reinforcing the event’s collaborative spirit.

The initiative is supported by the American Language Center Fes, Arabic Language Institute in Fez, École des Métiers d’Art Shems’y de Fès, Noujoum Fes Center, The Professional Fellowship Program, and Spark!Collectiv.
