Casablanca – Alongside the United Kingdom and Jordan, Morocco will serve as one of the filming locations for the upcoming thriller “Last Flight” starring Benedict Cumberbatch.

The movie takes place during the final days of a 20-year war, following a young Afghan named Ali who attempts to rescue his family. Cumberbatch plays the role of an American who helps people escape conflict zones in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Famous for his roles in “Doctor Strange” and “The Imitation Game”, Cumberbatch not only stars in “Last Flight” but also serves as an executive producer. He oversees the project through his company SunnyMarch, with Leah Clarke and Adam Ackland producing for SunnyMarch, while Two & Two handles production on their side, led by Lucan Toh and director Babak Anvari.

Directed by Babak Anvari, BAFTA winner for “Under The Shadow”, and written by Kirk Wallace Johnson, former USAID coordinator, the thriller is scheduled to start production in May 2026.

Morocco has long been a favorite location for international productions thanks to its diverse landscapes, particularly in Ouarzazate, often called the “Hollywood of Africa.” Recent films, including Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey”, have also been shot in Morocco, highlighting the country’s growing importance in global cinema.

Over the years, Morocco has hosted numerous major international films and series, including Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Its combination of deserts, mountains, and historic cities continues to make it a top choice for filmmakers seeking both authenticity and cinematic versatility.
