Marrakech – The Embassy of India is hosting a special Indian Cinema Evening in Rabat this week featuring two of the most influential films in modern Indian cinema.
On February 13 at 6 p.m., audiences will be treated to a screening of Dangal, the 2016 sports drama starring Aamir Khan, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sanya Malhotra, Zaira Wasim and Suhani Bhatnagar.
The film, presented in Hindi with French subtitles, is based on the real‑life story of an Indian father who trains his daughters to become world‑class wrestlers.
Aamir Khan’s performance and the film’s inspiring portrayal of women in sport earned multiple Filmfare Awards, including Best Film, Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress, as well as international recognition as one of the standout Hindi films of its year.
Dangal was a major box‑office success and remains one of the most acclaimed Bollywood films of the 2010s. It is admired across generations for its emotional depth, compelling performances and social message.
Then on February 15 at 4 p.m., the Embassy will continue the celebration with a screening of the classic romantic drama Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (DDLJ), starring Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol, also in Hindi with French subtitles.
Originally released in 1995, DDLJ became a cultural phenomenon and is frequently cited as one of the greatest Hindi films ever made.
It combines romance, family drama and vibrant songs to tell the story of Raj and Simran, two young Indians who fall in love during a European trip and must navigate tradition and family expectations to be together.
The film was a runaway success at the box office and won numerous awards, including 10 Filmfare Awards and the National Film Award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.
Over time DDLJ has also earned a reputation as the longest‑running film in Indian cinema history, famously screening continuously at a Mumbai theatre for many years, and remains beloved by audiences around the world.
