Rabat – The 11th edition of “Philosophy Encounters” arrives in Rabat today, continuing through tomorrow, for its final two days of dialogue and reflection under the theme “Passions Facing a Dilemma: Where Is the World Heading?”
Following its launch in Marrakech and Fez from February 9–11, the event continued in Casablanca on February 12.
This gathering also brings together nearly 40 philosophers, writers, artists, and researchers from Africa, Europe, and America.
Curated by French philosopher and journalist Severine Kodjo-Grandvaux and Moroccan writer Driss Ksikes, the program aims to make philosophy part of public daily life.
The conversations are held in both Arabic and French, and most sessions are open to the public.
A key highlight is the celebration of Ibn Rushd, also known as Averroes, a landmark figure in the dialogue between reason and intuition, as 2026 marks the 900th anniversary of his birth.
A night of thinking
This evening, the Faculty of Sciences in Rabat transforms into a hub for open discussions during “Philosophical Night.”
Topics range from feminism and identity to climate change, artificial intelligence, art, and decolonial thought.
Visitors can move freely between parallel lectures, joining the conversations that interest them most.
About African philosophies
Tomorrow morning will host a closing roundtable titled “Philosophies in Africa,” at the Académie du Royame, which will explore the diversity of African thoughts today.
The session will finish with a closing speech by Souleymane Bachir Diagne, a Senegalese philosopher.
Philosophy for youths
The event also engages younger audiences through a program called “Seeds of Philosophers”, which features interviews with thinkers and produces accompanying texts and podcasts, drawing interest from high school students in both Morocco and France.
Petit Banquet of the French Institute of Rabat offers a different experience for young children tomorrow afternoon by organizing a session inviting children to think about their connection to the universe in a relaxed and creative setting.
