Rabat – This year, spring/summer collections from leading fashion houses arrive alongside the Holy Month of Ramadan.

We noticed that fringed hems, sleeves, scarves, jackets, belts, and shawls have become increasingly visible.

Tassels & fringes

In their collection, fashion house Dolce & Gabbana brought fringed cuffs that look exquisite and elegant.

On her end, Dubai-based designer Ohaila Khan also embraced tassels in her 2026 Ramadan collection, interpreting the trend in a more fluid, light, and restrained way.

Fringed movement appeared along skirt and cape hems, as well as in belts and rope-style necklines.

In the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2026 line, there are soft corded fringes on a striped scarf tied at the waist lent.

The detail is casual and relaxed, yet perfect for adding texture while keeping the look balanced.

Bottega Veneta spring/summer 2026 took a bolder route, presenting scarves and jackets with nearly 1-meter-long frayed hems and oversized tassels that felt dramatic but elegant.

You’ll also see knitted tassels on many other pieces, such as handbags and scarves.

Tassels in Morocco and global fashion

Tassels and fringing have long existed in Moroccan handicrafts. Many carpets are finished with hand-tied wool tassels along their edges, serving as both decorative details and enduring symbols of craftsmanship passed down through generations.

Today, designers reinterpret those elements in modern silhouettes, blending heritage with contemporary fashion.

Across different cultures, tassels have a long and varied presence, beyond being an extra layer.

In the Middle East, particularly in ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia, fringed garments and rope-like trims stand for protection.

In some regions in Europe, they even appeared on military uniforms to indicate rank, as a signmarkers of hierarchy.

Taller Marmo, an Italian brand which used tassel-trimmed fringe in many of his designs, highly valued the design significance of tassels and fringings, connected with tradition and contemporary.

“Tassels and fringing are the ultimate playground for modern evening wear,” said designer Riccardo Audisio, co-founder of Taller Marmon, to Vogue.
