Rabat – Morocco, selected this year as the “Country in Focus” at the European Film Market (EFM), made a strong and remarkable impact at the global cinema industry platform, held from 12-18 February during the 76th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale).

In a statement released at the close of the EFM, the Berlinale’s B2B event, organizers praised the Moroccan film industry for showcasing not only its creative excellence but also its capacity to host major international productions and large-scale shoots.

The Moroccan pavilion at the prestigious Gropius Bau in central Berlin saw dynamic exchanges throughout the week, highlighting Morocco’s growing attractiveness as a competitive film production hub.

Organizers emphasized the country’s experienced teams, diverse shooting locations, and high-performance industry infrastructure.

The 2026 EFM concluded with a 5% increase in participants and significant growth in its programming, reinforcing its role as a global driver for the film industry.

More than 12,500 professionals attended various segments of the European Film Market, with 606 films screened, marking a rise from the previous year and boasting a world premiere rate of 83.17%.

The event also drew 1,794 distributors, underlining the EFM’s pivotal role in global film distribution.

The program resonated strongly with digital audiences, with 4,500 new social media followers over the past month and the successful launch of the EFM app, organizers added.

As the first African country to be spotlighted as “Country in Focus,” Morocco leveraged the EFM to highlight both its cinematic heritage and its international co-production capabilities.

The Moroccan participation kicked off with a high-profile event attended by key figures from the global film industry, including Berlinale Director Tricia Tuttle, EFM Director Tanja Meissner, Morocco’s Ambassador to Germany Zohour Alaoui, CCM Director Reda Benjelloun, and Abdelaziz El Bouzdaini, Secretary General of the Communication Department.
