Rabat – LALIGA is set to make history with its first-ever Retro Matchday, an initiative that celebrates the league’s rich heritage while merging soccer with contemporary fashion, according to a news statement.

From April 10-13, 38 clubs across LALIGA EA SPORTS and LALIGA HYPERMOTION will take the field wearing specially designed kits inspired by iconic moments from their history.

Even referees will participate, donning unique designs coordinated through the RFEF Referees Technical Committee (CTA).

Retro Matchday is conceived under the concept of “A Living Legacy,” transforming club history into a tangible, immersive experience.

By reimagining historic jerseys for today’s competitions, LALIGA connects generations of fans while positioning soccer as a cultural and fashion-forward phenomenon.

The initiative makes LALIGA the only major European league to implement a coordinated retro activation across all clubs simultaneously.

During Matchday 31 of LALIGA EA SPORTS and Matchday 35 of LALIGA HYPERMOTION, each participating club will showcase a kit that pays tribute to its heritage, bridging the origins of fandom with contemporary matchday experiences.

LALIGA Retro Matchday introduces “the collection that never goes out of style,” a series of jerseys that reinterpret historic designs for today’s audience.

The kits will be officially unveiled on March 19 at MBFWMadrid, Spain’s leading fashion week, highlighting the natural synergy between soccer and fashion.

“Retro Matchday is a unique opportunity to honor the history of our clubs and the symbols that have shaped generations of fans,” said Jaime Blanco, Director of LALIGA’s Club Office.

“Presenting this collection during Spain’s leading fashion week is the perfect platform to project that identity beyond the field and position soccer at the heart of the cultural and creative conversation.””

Retro Matchday is more than kits and matches, it is a comprehensive activation involving clubs, legends, sponsors, and key stakeholders across the LALIGA ecosystem.

The project will integrate retro-style graphics into broadcasts, enhancing television and digital experiences, while physical and digital activations will engage audiences before, during, and after matchday.

The official kit designs from participating clubs will be gradually revealed in the coming weeks, creating anticipation and global visibility.

The initiative is part of LALIGA’s broader campaign, “42 Legacies, 42 Ways of Winning,” which emphasizes how passion for a club is inherited, celebrated, and transformed over time.
